Jean Baptiste Viot

Date of Birth: June 1967

Location: Paris, France

Education:
1983 - Paris School of Watchmaking (à l’école municipale d’horlogerie, de la ville de Paris)
1986 – Swiss Watchmaking of the Joux Valley (l’école technique de la Vallée de Joux)
1988 – Restoration training at Watch and Clock Museum – La Chaux-de-Fonds (Musée International d’Horlogerie)

Experience: After two years of restoration training at MIH I returned to Paris where I worked in several restoration workshops – notably Dan Gendron, Paris, where many subtleties of the craft were learned. I returned to Switzerland in 1993, after my national service, to work at H-D-G (Haute de Gamme), which is now VCVJ (Vacheron Constantin Vallée de Joux), a complication maker for many top brands. The work began with perpetual calendars for Patek Philippe and lead to the design and prototyping of moonphase, with tourbillon, for Breguet. Other complications were to follow, including a perpetual calendar, tourbillon and minute repeater for Breguet.

In 1998 I moved back to Paris working for Breguet, 7 Place Vendome. Their servicing workshop for Breguet and Blancpain followed by being the chief restorer for the Breguet Museum, which was a considerable education covering the historical period of 1775-1840. The restoration workshop, eventually, moved to the Vallée de Joux, thus ending my 8 years walking in A.L. Breguet’s footsteps, as my path was to stay in Paris continuing restoration work and pursuing high end, manufactured pieces in Paris.
